Our research focuses on the biology of proteins that functionalise the microtubule and actin cytoskeleton – namely kinesins and microtubule associated proteins (MAPs). In particular, we try to understand how the biochemical and biophysical properties of a motor or a MAP translate into its in vivo function and how this is regulated. Hence, we follow a holistic experimental approach combining the in vitro characterisation of recombinant proteins on the single molecule level with a functional in vivo analysis of wild-type motors or their loss-of-function/gain-of-function variants.
